Scary?

The Exorcist was scary when it first came out in 1973, but for today’s standards it doesn’t scare today’s generation. For me, however, I never watched the movie or this kind of genre before. So the movie scared me to my core. I believe that the movie has the ability to scare people today, but only the people that don’t like watching horror films. I think it doesn’t scare today's generation because the effects today are of better quality and we have been exposed to so much violence. Also, when the daughter was possessed, it was funny when she would curse. When the movie came out, not many people would curse. Today swearing is part of some people’s daily vocabulary. So when someone is swearing in a movie, it is considered funny The scene that didn’t work would be when the daughter would throw up on the priest. That scene only made me sick and was disgusting.
Parts that still can scare some people would be when the daughter was levitating and the priests are trying to get her back down. Back then, it was something that not many movies were doing. It would make the movie stand out. When the doctor came to her house and it was dark out. His silhouette was dark, but around him it was bright. The lighting gave the scene more drama and it also made the scene more suspenseful. It would be one of the famous scenes from the movie. Another part that worked was when we first saw the daughter possessed. She twisted her head all the way around. That scene would make some people uncomfortable and uneasy in their seat. Also, the scene freaked people out that she twisted her neck like that. The fact she was had blood all over her and that she was using a cross to hurt herself earlier made the scene that much more creepy and scary. When the priests were performing the exorcist and the daughter broke free from the restraints and all you saw was her silhouette and the god from earlier in the movie. How the lighting was done made the scene creepy. It was also tied the god we saw earlier in the movie. The last scene that I thought still worked was when the younger priest attacked the daughter. He told her that he would sacrifice himself to save her. It was interesting how we saw the priest possessed and then he jumped out the window. By killing himself, he is also killing the demon.
